Dr. Johnson began her professional career as a Pharmaceutical Chemist and ventured into the educational arena after completing a Master of Science degree in secondary education. She has served in the capacity of curriculum director, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent.

In November 2005, Dr. Johnson was hired by the Bridgeport Board of Education, where she rose through the ranks as the Director of Science, Director of Central Magnet High School, Principal of Central High School, Executive Director of Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent, Interim Superintendent, and is currently the Superintendent of the Bridgeport Public School System.

Dr. Johnson earned her a degree in Chemistry from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina; a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education, a 6th year Certificate of Advanced Studies, a doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of Bridgeport, and she earned her Superintendent’s Certification from the University of Connecticut.  She currently maintains certification in the states of Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. 

Dr. Johnson also serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Bridgeport, she enjoys volunteering in the community, she is an active member on the Board of Directors for the Bridgeport Public Education Fund, Bridgeport Public Schools Foundation for Excellence, and the United Way.

Dr. Johnson has one amazingly wonderful son, Kacy, a graduate of Virginia Union University who currently resides in Charlotte, and she is married to her very best friend and unwavering supporter, Kevin.

Dr. Johnson belongs to several civic organizations including, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and the Links, Incorporated.
